Caring Charlize Theron fought back tears as she told how she is helping save lives in her native South Africa.

The Hollywood beauty is working with chatshow host Oprah Winfrey to provide a mobile health clinic and education centre to tackle the devastating threat of HIV and AIDS.

She struggled to contain her emotions when she appeared on Oprah’s show to talk about the project and watch a video of her recent visit to Africa.

The clinic travels to four schools in remote and impoverished areas of KwaZulu-Natal to give HIV tests and vital sex education to students.

MediaBlvd Magazine’s interview with Charlize

The Overture Films drama Sleepwalking is a moving story about the deep familial bond that develops between a 30-year-old man and his young niece, after the girl’s mother suddenly leaves town. Forced out of her home after her boyfriend is arrested, Joleen Reedy (Academy Award winner Charlize Theron) needs a place to stay with her 11-year-old daughter, Tara (AnnaSophia Robb). She turns to her younger brother James (Nick Stahl) for help, and he doesn’t hesitate to welcome them into his modest rental apartment. Almost as soon as she moves in, Joleen hits the road with another man, leaving James as the sole guardian of an adolescent girl. Before long, things spin out of control, and he loses his job, gets kicked out of his apartment and Tara is put into foster care. Deciding to take off with Tara and assume new identities as father and daughter, James faces his demons and, for the first time, finds a true purpose in life.

Also a producer on the film, Charlize Theron, along with her young co-star, AnnaSophia Robb, spoke to MediaBlvd Magazine about making an independent film with such a heavy, realistic subject matter.

Stunning Charlize on red-carpet best at ‘Sleepwalking’ premiere

It’s been a while since Charlize Theron has been seen at a premiere, but she was certainly on glowing form for the opening of her new flick on Thursday night. The beautiful South African stepped out in LA to a screening of her drama Sleepwalking.

And despite the title of the movie, the Oscar-winning actress was wide awake as she sent flashbulbs popping in a flapper-style black frock with on-trend platform sandals.

Talented Charlize, who stars as a troubled woman who abandons her 12-year-old daughter, was also on producing duty for the film. And it seems her work has a high-profile fan – in the form of veteran actor and co-star Dennis Hopper.

“It’s terrific and Charlize is terrific,” declared Dennis, who attended the screening with his wife Victoria Duffy. “I can hardly wait to see it!”

Theron’s ‘passion project’

Charlize Theron was at the Smith Rafael Film Center on Sunday night to promote “Sleepwalking,” a low-budget independent movie she produced and in which stars.

“Sleepwalking” was shown for California Film Institute members, followed by a Q&A session with Theron and co-star Nick Stahl.

She made it clear that this is “a passion project” for her, so she has to be disappointed with the lousy reviews so far.

After its recent showing at Sundance, the MTV Movie Blog called it “the Super Bowl of good performance/bad movie movies.”

Charlize tackles another complex role in ‘Sleepwalking’

Don’t ever make any dumb blonde jokes about Charlize Theron. Not just because the tall, lanky and very buff South African actress could probably break you in half. Rather, because she’s an ever-inquisitive mover and shaker who’s constantly trying to learn everything she can about the ropes of her business. That and the fact that she’s a damn good actress.

For “Sleepwalking,” the new film in which she both acts and serves as a co-producer, those blonde locks have gone brown. She plays Joleen, a bad apple mom who one day hops in a truck and hits the road with yet another boyfriend, leaving her brother and her 11-year-old daughter behind.

It’s not the first time Theron has played an unpleasant character. Her first foray into film was as Helga, the ice-hearted girlfriend to James Spader’s ruthless hitman in “2 Days in the Valley.” A few years ago she nabbed a best actress Oscar for her gritty portrayal of real-life serial killer Aileen Wuornos in “Monster.”

‘In the Valley of Elah’ Screencaptures – Part 1

VN:F [1.9.17_1161]
Rating: 5.0/5 (1 vote cast)

I finally had a chance to watch and cap ‘In the Valley of Elah’ over the past few days and have added screencaps of Charlize in the 2 documentaries on the disc, “After Iraq” and “Coming Home.” I apologize for the grainy/blurry quality of the documentary caps, but that’s the quality on the DVD, so unfortunately there wasn’t much I could do about it. The film screencaps are great quality though and they will be added within the next few days once I finish weeding through them. :)
