The Venice Film Festival to be star-studded affair

VN:F [1.9.17_1161]
Rating: 0.0/5 (0 votes cast)

Though the official line-up of the festival, that runs from September 2 to 12, will be out in Rome on July 30, it is likely to include latest creations from biggies such as Steven Soderbergh, Michael Moore, Joe Dante, Werner Herzog and Todd Solondz. Festival Director Marco Mueller and his team appear to have decided on movies whose actors would make it a point to fly down to Venice, helping the international event to avoid last year’s criticism of being star starved.Moore’s documentary Capitalism: A Love Story will have a go at the current economic crisis, while Soderbergh’s The Informant essays Matt Damon as an agriculture business price fixer. Australian helmer John Hillcoat will make his Venetian sojourn with The Road, starring Charlize Theron in a post-apocalyptic tale, and Herzog’s Bad Lieutenant will have Nicolas Cage and Eva Mendes. Charlotte Rampling will accompany Solondz with his Life During Wartime, a kind of sequel to the 1998 Happiness. Former Gucci creative director Tom Ford is also expected to present his first film, A Single Man, centered on an LA-based British college professor who loses his partner of 16 years. The picture stars Julianne Moore. For the first time in 20 years, an Italian work will herald the Festival. Called Baaria, it is a big budget Sicilian epic by Tornatore. Others from the country include Tilda Swinton-starrer I am Love (by Luca Guadagnino), The Big Dream (Michele Placido), The White Space (Francesca Comencini) and Napoli, Napoli, Napoli (Abel Ferrara). The French basket may have White Material, starring Isabelle Huppert and Christopher Lambert; and Patrice Chereau’s love triangle, Persecution Charlotte Gainsbourge. Asian films don’t have much to show this year. A reason for this is that Cannes took away many of the significant productions from the continent this May. There is a chance that the Chinese historical work “The Warrior and the Wolf,” by Tian Zhuangzhuang, may play there provided it is finished.

Football isn’t high on the agenda for the average American, with the sport faring well below basketball, American football and baseball in the popularity stakes.

So what better way to give soccer a boost in the States with a host of A-list stars turning out to declare their love for the game.

Charlize Theron, Ashton Kutcher and Will Ferrell came out as unlikely Chelsea fans to cheer on the Blues at a pre-season friendly against Inter Milan in Los Angeles last night.

Also in attendance was Charmed actress Alyssa Milano – who has Italian roots – and Clockwork Orange actor Malcolm McDowell, who cheered on Inter Milan.

The game proved for an interesting night – which saw ex-Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho reunited with his former team while being in charge of Inter Milan.

Chelsea went on to beat Inter Milan 2-0, with Frank Lampard and Didier Drogba both scoring.

Oscar winner Charlize joined young Chelsea fans prior to kick-off to speak to the 81,224-strong crowd who had gathered at the Rose Bowl in the LA suburb of Pasadena.

Her Charlize Theron Africa Outreach Project has teamed up with the LAFC Chelsea (a youth football training programme) to set up community football programs for underprivileged children in her native South Africa.

Proceeds of last night’s game went towards the project, so Charlize told fans with where their money was going.

Wearing a sexy halterneck dress and gladiator sandals, the 33-year-old proudly held up a Chelsea shirt bearing her surname.

he said: ‘The World Cup is a huge, huge thing for South Africans and for Africa. The pride Africans have of hosting this is tremendous.

‘The question is, how do we generate that into other areas and have more of an impact?’

She was joined on the pitch by funnyman Will Ferrell, who publicly expressed his love for Chelsea when he wore a team shirt during an appearance on U.S. TV last year.

Charlize Theron Hospitalized Due To Food Poisoning

Rating: 0.0/5 (0 votes cast)

Hollywood actress Charlize Theron spent four nights in a Los Angeles hospital last week after contracting a painful stomach virus, according to a tabloid report.

The Hancock star is alleged to have suffered severe abdominal pains, which she attributed to food poisoning.

But when the sharp stomach pangs failed to go away, her boyfriend Stuart Townsend took her to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center to seek treatment.

According to the National Enquirer, doctors ran a series of tests on Theron and diagnosed her with a serious virus, thought to have been contracted during her travels overseas.

And Townsend was left shaken by Theron’s health scare, reportedly telling pals, “I was scared to death. I had no idea what was happening to her, but this is a woman who never complains, so I knew it had to be serious.”

The publication claims the actress was discharged from hospital after being given a series of antibiotics and is now back to full health.
