Charlize Theron relies on Indian chanting to relax

Charlize Theron listened to Indian chanting when she shot her latest Dior campaign.

The Hollywood beauty, who is the face of Dior’s J’Adore fragrance, relied on relaxing music to cope with the fast pace of a recent photo shoot to celebrate the perfume’s 10th anniversary.

The campaign’s make-up artist Shane Paish said: “We listened to tons of different music to stay inspired, everything from Culture Club to Indian chanting. The mood was fun, fast-paced and creative.”

Paish also revealed that during the Los Angeles photo shoot Charlize experimented with several strong ideas which could feature in the new adverts.

He explained to People magazine: “There were so many looks. It was like working on a non-stop treadmill – shooting one look, then running back to the chair for different hair and make-up, changing looks and starting all over again. We started with a natural look and then worked up to a high-fashion look with dark lips to give it some variety.

“All the clothing was Dior – of course! No wonder they say ‘J’adore Dior!’ ”

The campaign is due to be launched next month.

Charlize Theron shocked at lack of AIDS knowledge

Hollywood actress Charlize Theron got a rude shock when she learnt that people from her native land South Africa have poor knowledge about AIDS.

In South Africa HIV-positive men believe that by having sex with a young virgin can be cure them of this disease. Town Rape Crisis Centre in 1999 was opened in a bid to stop the spread of AIDS but decade later people are still under the illusion that simple cures can help them get past it.

The men rape young child or virgin in hope to cure themselves, not realizing that they are spreading it further. Theron feels that it is the lack of proper knowledge about AIDS and superstitions of people which is resulting in such shocking behaviour.

It is the culture that is superstitious according to Charlize and is the reason for many AIDS cases in South Africa.

Charlize to be in TIFF?

The Toronto International Film Festival has ramped up its star power with titles featuring such top talent as George Clooney, Charlize Theron, Robert Duvall, Natalie Portman and Canadian Michael Cera.

Seven newly added films will get the red-carpet gala treatment, including The Men Who Stare at Goats, starring Ewan McGregor as a reporter chasing a tip from an ex-military figure, played by Clooney.

The dark comedy, co-starring Jeff Bridges and directed by Grant Heslov, is Clooney’s second at the fest this year, after the previously announced Up in the Air, lensed by Montreal’s Jason Reitman.

Theron and Duvall team up with Viggo Mortensen and Guy Pearce in The Road, a post-apocalyptic tale of survival adapted from the Pulitzer Prize-winning novel by Cormac McCarthy.

In Love and Other Impossible Pursuits, having its world premiere in gala form, Portman stars as a law-school graduate reeling from the loss of her newborn daughter. Lisa Kudrow of Friends fame co-stars.

Cera portrays a teen trying to lose his virginity and win the heart of a girl, played by Portia Doubleday, in Youth in Revolt.

Based on the cult-hit novel by C.D. Payne, the feature is directed by Miguel Arteta, best known for directing beloved TV series including The Office, Six Feet Under and Freaks and Geeks.

Other cast members include Steve Buscemi, Ray Liotta, Justin Long and Jean Smart.

Also having its world premiere gala at the fest will be Mother and Child, a love story starring Annette Bening, Naomi Watts and Samuel L. Jackson.

Rachel Weisz slips into the role of an astronomer in fourth-century Egypt in Agora Alejandro Amenabar, also unspooling in gala form.

In the drama The Joneses, Demi Moore and David Duchovny portray a seemingly perfect couple with a secret.

Also look out for the directorial debut of fashion designer Tom Ford in A Single Man. Colin Firth stars as a British college professor consoled by his best friend (Julianne Moore) while dealing with the death of his longtime partner (Matthew Goode).

Charlize Theron feels like drug user

Charlize Theron often feels like she has taken cocaine.

The ‘Burning Plain’ actress constantly feels anxious about things she has said, and likens the worry to how people feel the day after they’ve taken illegal drugs.

She revealed to America’s Vogue magazine: “People tell me that cocaine makes you feel superhuman and you’ll say anything. Then, when you come down, all of a sudden you have guilt. But I have that feeling innately, even without the cocaine.”

The 34-year-old star has also spoken about the public perception of her, insisting her good looks often lead people to assume she is shallow.

She explained: “This package does not describe the centre of my creamy goodness. I cut my hair really short in my 20s, and people were like, ‘Hmm, wait a second. Is she gay?’

“But I know how I feel about facing my own weaknesses, and playing into my weaknesses and finding that within my characters. My weaknesses are way more interesting to me than my strengths.”

Charlize has been with her partner, actor Stuart Townsend, for nine years, and admits they have discussed starting a family.

She revealed: “I just know I’m going to have five boys. We’ve been together so long we’ve kind of realised that we’re going to take this journey together.”

Charlize has previously revealed she will not tie the knot with Stuart until gay marriage is legalised.

DirecTV offers Theron movie before theater release

A film starring Charlize Theron and Kim Basinger will be available to DirecTV customers nationwide for nearly a month before it debuts in theaters, it was announced today.

It’s the first time that a Hollywood feature-length film will be screened on DirecTV before its theatrical release date, according to the El Segundo-based satellite television company.

“The Burning Plain,” directed by Guillermo Arriaga, the Academy Award- nominated writer of “21 Grams” and “Babel,” debuts in theaters on Sept. 17. DirecTV subscribers can see it — for an additional fee beginning at $9.99 — between Aug. 21 and Sept. 16.

The movie will be available in 1080p HD — same as Blu-ray — or standard-definition to subscribers, said Sarah Lyons, DirecTV’s vice president of marketing.
