Charlize Theron to Caspe comedy

Charlize Theron will star in and produce an untitled comedy based on a pitch by David Caspe, with David Ellison’s Skydance Prods. financing and producing.

Theron’s production partners, J.J. Harris and Beth Kono, are also producing through her production banner Denver and Delilah Films.

Caspe’s credits include “Karate Kids” (aka “Sensei”), sold to Summit with Benderspink producing, and “I Hate You Dad,” sold as a pitch to Columbia with Happy Madison producing. He’s also the creator and executive producer of the Jamie Tarses-produced “Happy Endings”; shooting on the latter’s pilot was recently completed for ABC.

Denver and Delilah produced “Monster,” for which Theron won an Oscar, and is producing “Mind Hunter” for HBO and Fox 21 with David Fincher, based on the book “Mind Hunter: Inside the FBI’s Elite Serial Crime Unit,” by John Douglas and Mark Olshaker. Banner also produced “The Burning Plain” and “Sleepwalking.”

Skydance’s credits include the upcoming Paramount films “Mission: Impossible 4″ and “True Grit.” Company recently entered into a strategic partnership with Paramount, which allows it to co-finance and produce four to six films per year with the studio.
