Uncovering Charlize Theron
Categories: Hancock and Interviews

She is, as Glamour magazine writer Skip Hollandsworth aptly pointed out, “fiercely intelligent” and “gloriously opinionated,” somebody we locals love to describe as “beauty and brains,” and, again to quote Hollandsworth, “an actress who refuses to be shallow, on-screen or off.”
I saw that for myself when I did a one-on-one with Charlize Theron during the Hollywood junket for Hancock in New York mid-June. Produced by Columbia Pictures (and directed by Peter Berg, an actor in his own right), Hancock (now showing nationwide) stars in the title role Will Smith with whom Theron first worked in The Legend of Bagger Vance in 2000.
Looking at me with piercing hazel eyes and brushing her shoulder-length blonde hair away from her lovely face, Theron would tackle your questions not in mono-syllables like most blondes would but in long, elaborate sentences, firm and sure of her “gloriously opinionated” answers.

Hancock a crazy ride, says Charlize
Categories: Hancock and Interviews

Charlize Theron stars in Hancock, released in cinemas on Wednesday. The stunning actress tells Kate Whiting what drew her to the film about an unconventional superhero, and what it was like working with co-star Will Smith
Summer wouldn’t be the same without the obligatory action blockbusters competing for box-office ratings, yet it’s rare to find an Oscar-winning actress and an Oscar-nominated actor sharing top billing on one such “popcorn” movie.
But then Hancock, starring Charlize Theron and Will Smith, is no ordinary action adventure – it’s a superhero film with a difference.
“I think this will be the craziest ride an audience has ever had,” says Charlize, with a wry smile.
“I have been in this business for 14 years and I walked out of the theatre after a screening and told my manager that this was ‘original’. I do not throw that word around. I have never seen anything like this. We took a genre that audiences are quite familiar with and did something unique.”

What happened to Charlize Theron in ‘Hancock’?

From a casual viewing of the marketing material for “Hancock,” Sony’s upcoming Will Smith comic thriller, I hardly knew that Charlize Theron was even in the movie. Our crack reporter Chris Lee turned up at an early screening and offers this assessment:
“At an early screening of ‘Hancock’ at the Grove last week, Will Smith’s performance as an alcoholic superhero with a bad attitude and a mounting public relations crisis had the packed theater alternately chuckling and wide-eyed. ‘Hancock’s’ third-billed costar, Charlize Theron, on the other hand, had everyone–high school students, foreign tourists, Sony executives–literally gasping with surprise.

Charlize Theron’s super power? She wants to see you naked.

The Dish Rag talked with Charlize Theron recently about her new summer film, “Hancock,” starring Will Smith, the superpowers she’d love to have in real life, her beauty secrets, and what it’s really like to be dubbed a Hollywood sex symbol.
DR: Are you a superhero in “Hancock?”
CT: Well, I think we’ve tried to make people believe many different things, and I guess it’s pretty obvious that we’re trying to keep some things a secret. I just hope people aren’t expecting some crazy surprise. I think what we’re trying to hold onto is what I loved about the material, which was just a chemistry between two characters that I haven’t seen before.
Obviously, it’s a conflicted relationship because she’s married and she has a stepson and she’s kind of created the perfect family. But it really is more about a woman being stuck in two worlds.

Red carpet capers for superhero Will at ‘Hancock’ premiere
|
There’s never a dull moment when US funnyman Will Smith is around – as the fun-loving actor demonstrated at the London premiere of his latest comedy flick Hancock. Taking a hands on approach to the red carpet duties he was sharing with co-star Charlize Theron, the actor ensured there were laughs aplenty at the Leicester Square screening on Wednesday.
“I was thinking about wearing Hancock’s uniform, but it was a little tight and I thought it would be rather embarrassing,” quipped the star, who dons an all-leather ensemble for his role as the down-and-out superhero in the movie. “I thought I’d just keep it simple and sexy,” he added.
It was a dress code Charlize had clearly opted for too. The blonde was chic in an elegant black number.
Meanwhile, the former Fresh Prince star gave an insight into his always-chipper demeanor. “My life is exactly how I want it,” he revealed. “So I couldn’t even imagine wanting a super power!”
