Charlize and Will Smith to present at the 2008 MTV Movie Awards
Categories: Hancock and Public Appearances

The MTV Movie Awards are all about honoring the biggest films in the world, so it’s only fitting that this year’s ceremony will be ushered in by two of Hollywood’s very biggest stars.
Will Smith will join previously announced presenters Will Ferrell, Sarah Jessica Parker, Lindsay Lohan, Steve Carell, Robert Downey Jr., Seth Rogen and more at the 17th annual MTV Movie Awards, broadcast live this year from the Gibson Amphitheatre on Sunday at 8 p.m. ET. Smith’s “Hancock” co-star, Charlize Theron, will also be handing out a Golden Popcorn.
Cruise, long a program mainstay, was the first-ever winner of MTV’s Generation Award, given to the performer who has most captured the attention of MTV’s audience throughout his or her career. This year’s Generation Award recipient is Adam Sandler (who recently launched MTV’s Sneak Peek Week with a screening of “You Don’t Mess With the Zohan”).
Also joining the fun are Rainn Wilson, Anna Faris, Katharine McPhee, Megan Fox, Brendan Fraser, Danny McBride, Liv Tyler, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and Jennifer Hudson, who will present awards to a talented group of nominees, led this year by “Superbad,” “Juno,” “Transformers,” “Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End” and “Enchanted.”
The MTV Movie Awards will be hosted for the second time by comedian Mike Myers and will include live musical performances from Coldplay and the Pussycat Dolls.
The MTV Movie Awards will air live on MTV on Sunday at 8 p.m. ET, with MTV News’ “Coming Attractions” preshow kicking the evening off at 7:30 p.m. ET! Categories: Battle in Seattle and Public Appearances

For one night at least, Seattle was star-struck.
Thanks to the movie “Battle in Seattle,” several celebrities graced the red carpet for the opening night of the Seattle International Film Festival Thursday and gave fans a rare brush with old-school glamour.
The Seattle premiere of the movie, a semi-fictionalized account of the 1999 WTO protests, came packed with star power, including actor and first-time director Stuart Townsend, his girlfriend and co-star Charlize Theron, singer/ actor Andre Benjamin, lead actor Martin Henderson (”The Ring”), and “Lost” casualty Michelle Rodriguez. Missing was principal Jennifer Carpenter, best known lately for playing a foul-mouthed Miami detective on “Dexter.”

‘Battle in Seattle’ to open SIFF
Categories: Battle in Seattle and Film News & Reviews

Living up to its name, Stuart Townsend’s “Battle in Seattle” and its stars Charlize Theron and Martin Henderson will kick off the 34th Seattle International Film Festival on May 22 at Seattle Center’s Marion Oliver McCaw Hall.
The sprawling fest, which will screen 418 films during the course of 25 days, will run through June 15. The closing-night gala, set for June 14, is Randall Miller’s “Bottle Shock,” set in California’s wine country and starring Alan Rickman, Bill Pullman and Chris Pine, which will screen at the Cinerama Theatre.
“This year’s SIFF is fiercely independent with wide-ranging opportunities for people to explore new ways to look at the world through cinema,” SIFF artistic director Carl Spence said. “Seventy percent of the films in the program are currently without U.S. distribution.” Almost half of the features in the lineup come from first- or second-time directors.
The June 6 centerpiece gala will feature “The Great Buck Howard,” directed by Sean McGinly and starring Colin Hanks and John Malkovich.
Other presentations include the world premiere of “Jolene,” directed by SIFF co-founder Dan Ireland, and screenings of Sergei Eisenstein’s 1938 historical drama “Alexander Nevsky,” accompanied by the Seattle Symphony playing Sergei Prokofiev’s original score.

The Cinema Source exclusive interview with Charlize
|
Charlize Theron is an actress who traverses between the mainstream (The Italian Job, Aeon Flux) and the independent (The Yards, Monster) with ease, and now she wears another hat: in Sleepwalking, she both co-stars and produces.
It’s not the first time she’s worked as a producer – that would be Monster, the little movie that could for which she won the Best Actress Oscar.
“That’s the job I signed up for,” she says when asked about her nonstop busy schedule during filming. “When people are going to give you millions and millions of dollars to go make a film, you’re responsible for them. So I spent six weeks up there before anybody came up, doing the location scouting and meeting with the film community out there and figuring out our incentives and how we were going to work our budget out. And if we didn’t make a day or were behind schedule, I was the one who had to answer those questions.”
