Star of The Road, Viggo Mortensen certainly looks dapper on the red carpet for the AFI Film Festival screening of the movie based on the Cormac McCarthy novel. But during filming of the movie, the actor reportedly didn’t shower at all during the course of filming in order to get into character.
This was news to his glamorous co-star, Charlize Theron, who is herself no stranger to roughing it. However, she was still surprised to hear the news of Mortensen’s method.
Theron told reporters, “What?! I didn’t hear that. I was only there for three days! Even if I didn’t shower for three days, that’s not that bad, right? Compared to an entire film!”

Charlize Theron and Viggo Mortensen reflect on life at the American Film Institute’s premiere of ‘The Road’ on Wednesday night in Los Angeles.
Based on the Cormac McCarthy tale of a widower (Viggo) and his son (Kodi Smit-McPhee), the movie follows the two as they struggle to survive in a post-apocalyptic world. Viggo, who was honored by the AFI at the event, said of his young co-star, “I felt such affection for the boy who I didn’t know before this. Now he is like my son.”
Reflecting on what he gained by portraying this role, Viggo said, “I think telling the story made me value just being alive and having family members who are alive, …
In the post-apocalyptic drama “The Road,” Charlize Theron plays a wife and mother who yearns to commit suicide because she can’t handle the overwhelming bleakness surrounding her.
In “The Burning Plain,” which opens Friday, the 34-year-old portrays a miserable restaurateur whose guilt over past secrets manifests itself in empty sex and self-abuse.
Pretty heavy stuff.
But don’t think Theron isn’t aware of how tough it can be to sell such dark stories to a movie-going audience that is largely looking for lighter subject matter amid the slumping economy.
I’ve added lots of videos of Charlize in the Media section. You can see the list below:

The Toronto International Film Festival has ramped up its star power with titles featuring such top talent as George Clooney, Charlize Theron, Robert Duvall, Natalie Portman and Canadian Michael Cera.
Seven newly added films will get the red-carpet gala treatment, including The Men Who Stare at Goats, starring Ewan McGregor as a reporter chasing a tip from an ex-military figure, played by Clooney.
The dark comedy, co-starring Jeff Bridges and directed by Grant Heslov, is Clooney’s second at the fest this year, after the previously announced Up in the Air, lensed by Montreal’s Jason Reitman.
Theron and Duvall team up with Viggo Mortensen and Guy Pearce in The Road, a post-apocalyptic tale of survival adapted from the …
Though the official line-up of the festival, that runs from September 2 to 12, will be out in Rome on July 30, it is likely to include latest creations from biggies such as Steven Soderbergh, Michael Moore, Joe Dante, Werner Herzog and Todd Solondz. Festival Director Marco Mueller and his team appear to have decided on movies whose actors would make it a point to fly down to Venice, helping the international event to avoid last year’s criticism of being star starved.Moore’s documentary Capitalism: A Love Story will have a go at the current economic crisis, while Soderbergh’s The Informant essays Matt Damon as an agriculture business price fixer. Australian helmer John Hillcoat will make …
The Road trailer is now in Youtube.
I should be adding the video soon in the Media section. For now you can watch it above. Thanks Brian!
The film adaptation of Cormac McCarthy’s contemporary classic book, The Road, has hit every bump on the road (sorry) possible, from shifting release dates to delayed production schedule. However, it seems that the father-son wartime drama will finally see the light of day. The Road is scheduled for release on Oct. 16.
Originally set to premiere during the 2008 award season, The Road might still be able to gather a few nominations this year, despite being delayed for almost a year because of difficulty with special effects.
With a cast of Oscar nominees and winners that includes Charlize Theron, Viggo Mortensen and Robert Duvall, the story is centered around the relationship between a man and his …
Charlize Theron is an actress who traverses between the mainstream (The Italian Job, Aeon Flux) and the independent (The Yards, Monster) with ease, and now she wears another hat: in Sleepwalking, she both co-stars and produces.
It’s not the first time she’s worked as a producer – that would be Monster, the little movie that could for which she won the Best Actress Oscar.
“That’s the job I signed up for,” she says when asked about her nonstop busy schedule during filming. “When people are going to give you millions and millions of dollars to go make a film, you’re responsible for them. So I spent six weeks up there before anybody came up, doing the location …
