Charlize Theron was surprised to discover the girl who “f***ed” her up in primary school now lives a “sad life”.

The 36-year-old actress was never popular when she was younger and unsuccessfully tried to befriend one of the most well-liked people in her class and Charlize revealed she recently ran into her childhood peer with surprising results.

She told the Daily Mirror newspaper: “I was pretty much a mess after primary school. There was a really popular girl at school and I was obsessed with her. You’d go to jail for that stuff today, I was in tears one day because I couldn’t sit next to her.

“Then three weeks ago I’m in London shooting a film. I was in a fitting and this girl goes, ‘Oh I know Charlize.’ And it was the girl that f***ed me up in primary school who now lives kind of a sad life.”

Charlize has gained more confidence with age and although many actresses in their 30s feel the need to resort to cosmetic surgery, she hopes she won’t succumb to the surgeon’s knife.

She said: “This is what I wake up with every morning so I’d better be comfortable with it. When I was younger I felt I had to prove to everybody I could do the job.

“I am 36 and loving it. I wouldn’t want to go back to my twenties. Some people have Botox and that’s great. But hopefully I’ll be OK without it.”

CHARLIZE Theron likes to wallow in trash!

The Oscar winning beauty has “come out” as a reality TV addict insisting that following the likes of Kim Kardashian actually helps her movie performances due to the stress-busting qualities of their shows.

“I am a closet reality TV watcher,” says Charlize. “The more brain-dead they are, the more I like them. I realized a while back that the only thing I could do in my trailer to pass time was to watch these shows.

It’s almost like having a massage because your brain doesn’t have to think about anything and you’re not thinking about what’s happening outside of the trailer. Reality TV is like an instant off-switch for my brain.”

The actress recently admitted she cannot concentrate if she is surrounded by mess and will not stop until everything is tidy again.

“I have a bit of an OCD. I have to be incredibly clean and neat and tidy for some weird reason because otherwise my mind just switches off,” says Charlize, 36.

“I have to tidy up. I can’t help it but it is just one of those things.”

Charlize Theron isn’t “bummed” about missing out on an Oscar nod.

The actress is currently promoting her new movie Young Adult, which has garnered positive reviews from critics and audiences alike. However, it didn’t result in an Academy Award nomination for the star.

The blonde beauty insists the amazing response to her role is the greatest reward.

“It’s so bizarre to look at this as something to feel bummed about because it [my role] has got me some of the best reviews in my career, people really responded to me in this role and that was the greatest gift for me,” she told Australian radio show Kyle and Jackie O.

“I think people are used to seeing me… I have this joke with my production partner that I just get anything that says ‘crying’ or ‘tortured’ or ‘depressed’ – it lands on my table. It was nice to do something that is different and I feel that was for me like winning the Academy Award, to have a director and writer send me material that’s out of my comfort zone and for people to respond to it [positively].”

In the movie, Charlize plays an immature teen literature writer who returns to her hometown to relive her heyday and win back her married high school sweetheart.

When asked where she keeps her best actress award for her role in 2003 movie Monster, she joked that she never leaves it out of her sight.

“I carry it with me at all times. You never know when you need an Oscar,” she laughed.

Charlize also joked about working with some of showbiz finest actresses, Marilyn Monroe and Grace Kelly.

The star was teamed up with digital versions of the late Hollywood icons for a Dior advert.

Charlize is the face of the French fashion house’s fragrance J’Adore Dior and can be seen backstage with the legendary ladies in the advert.

“Do you want to know what Marilyn’s like? She’s a real b***h. And Grace Kelly was just wasting time telling stories about being a princess… Eugh! Just go away Grace, stop talking. High maintenance,” she laughed, before explaining how the lookalikes were created.

“It takes forever to do this, it’s a long process, but they use models who have similar features and mark their faces with these tiny little spots as markers for the CGI people and then they pull actual footage of these iconic actresses and CGI them on the bodies. It’s a tedious amount of work to do it right and to not have it look bad but Dior did a really good job.”

Charlize Theron says there are more important things in life than chasing “a love story”.

The Hollywood actress stars alongside Patrick Wilson in the new comedy-drama Young Adult. Charlize plays divorced woman Mavis Gary, who returns to her small hometown to win back her happily married high school sweetheart, portrayed by Patrick.

Charlize doesn’t have the same mentality as her film character.

“When you are a teenager you think that love is the only important thing in your life. The only thing you need. But when you grow up you realise that love is not enough. You understand that there are things more important than a love story,” she explained in an interview with Gioia magazine.

Charlize has talked about her upbringing.

The stunning star says she was always allowed her to express her creativity.

“Not at all,” she responded when asked if she was a troublesome teen. “I was a very quiet and imaginative girl. I grew up on a farm in South Africa and I was surrounded by incredible scenery. There I learned to dream.

“My parents have taught me to be honest and not to pretend to be what I am not.”

“I really wanted to be away for the holidays but I’m working in London. I don’t know when I’m going to wrap this film (‘Snow White and the Huntsman’ with Kristen Stewart) and how exhausted I’m going to be. I’m playing it by ear.

“Every year I spend my Christmas differently. Sometimes I like to travel, sometimes I like to stay home and cook dinner. I didn’t really grow up with Christmas being a specific thing because it’s summer holiday in South Africa (where I was born). We tend to load the car up and drive to the beach. Santa Claus puts on a Speedo and comes down the lagoon. That’s very South African. You have barbecue and watermelon. For me, that’s what Christmas always represents when I was a child growing up. Not the tree, snow and gifts. We didn’t do any of that stuff.”
