By accident rather than design Charlize Theron took a three-year break from acting recently. Starring in Jason Reitman’s hilarious black comedy Young Adult marks a welcome return and it was, she says, the best working experience she’s ever had.

Variety gives actress Indie Impact Award, eyes 10 new directors.
An emotional, humble and candid Charlize Theron took center stage Sunday, musing about the importance of the independent filmmaker.
The 36-year-old actress received the Indie Impact Award from Variety magazine during the trade publication’s annual awards brunch at The Parker Palm Springs, joining the ranks of past honorees Mark Wahlberg and Philip Seymour Hoffman.
“I don’t know if I’ve had an impact on the indie world,” Theron said upon receiving her award. “But I know the indie world has had an impact on me.”
Theron is the star of the much-lauded Diablo Cody film “Young Adult” and was recognized along with Variety’s hand-picked “10 Directors to Watch.”

Charlize Theron has joked she will attend the Golden Globe Awards ceremony “covered in mud”.
The star has been nominated for Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture – Comedy or Musical for her role in Young Adult.
However, the actress joked that she would ditch her usual red carpet style for the event in January.
“I’m thinking I’m going covered in mud this year,” she told Entertainment Tonight.
Charlize is thrilled to be in the running for the prestigious prize again.
She has been nominated for a Golden Globe three times in the past and won once in 2003 for her performance in Monster.

In a news release announcing the award, festival chairman Harold Matzner called “Young Adult” “a truly unique and utterly enjoyable film” and added, “The filmmakers and cast represent the some of the best and most exciting filmmaking work of the year and have delivered a biting black comedy as deeply poignant as it is funny.”
Of the four honorees, only Oswalt is not a past PSIFF recipient. Reitman and Cody received the Vanguard Award in 2008 for their previous collaboration, “Juno,” while Theron received the Desert Palm Achievement Actress Award for “North Country” in 2006. Reitman also won the festival’s Best Director award for “Up in the Air” two years ago.
